World war2:
Churchill struggling with British production.

"For the rest of the year, as tank production was being slashed, the Churchill government did everything possible to try to meet its aircraft targets. The official historian of British war production..."

"Winston Churchill was in power, knew exactly what it was fighting for — the preservation of the British Empire. The British therefore approached the war intellectually from a very different point of view from the Americans."

President Roosevelt supported Indian nationalism.

"India was on an unstoppable course to becoming an independent nation. He seemed willing to act as a negotiator between the British government & Indian nationalists, as part of a plan that would end British rule in the country.'

#Britain (Indian support!)

"Manpower concerns were some of the greatest issues confronting the Churchill government during the war. The United Kingdom itself (without the resources of the British Empire) was the smallest nation of the great powers in terms of population."

This is why Hitler was negotiating with Subhash Chandra Bose. Diversion of Indian troops, meant victory for Germany.
Since, the British were outnumbered!

American military & Indian ground troops SAVED Britain from being conquered.

President Roosevelt said to Churchill:

"That India should be seen as in a historical equivalent to the American colonies between 1776 and 1783.'' Churchill, on the other hand, worked feverishly to postpone any change in the relationship between India and the British Empire."

Operation Bolero:
"Triumph is a double-edged sword here. From a shipping point of view, Churchill actually undermined Britain’s long-term vision by concentrating on the Mediterranean in 1943. He certainly delayed Operation Bolero."

"To transfer all the new aircraft & other supplies, to Great Britain, Roosevelt needed a legal shield. Destroyers for Bases deal, by which the United States would transfer not only warships, but B-17 bombers and ammunition to the UK in exchange for leases on British Empire bases"

GREEDY Churchill wanted to keep India:

"Churchill, on the other hand, worked feverishly to postpone any change in the relationship between India and the British Empire."

"he wanted to keep that day at bay for as long as possible."  Page 135

"British manpower requirements led to a constant conflict between the needs of the armed forces and the needs of the factories, so much so that there were regular fights and commissions set up to try to cope with the problem."

Britain:
"The loss of Singapore, marked the beginning of the end of the UK as a meaningful power in East Asia.

Having suffered such a blow to imperial prestige, the British opted for a completely defensive and very cheap strategy, based around the protection of India"

"By late 1940, Winston Churchill admitted privately that Britain was "broke" and could no longer pay for the materials needed to fight. Without the Lend-Lease program from the U.S. and the raw materials, food, and industrial output of India and the Dominion.."

Churchill admitted to Franklin D. Roosevelt in a letter during the fall of 1940 that the dollar credits were heavily drawn upon and that orders already placed or under negotiation "many times exceed the total exchange resources remaining at the disposal of Great Britain".

"Churchill, frustrated by the mounting debt to India.
By 1947, Britain owed India roughly £1.3 billion. Churchill's refusal to divert shipping or grain to India was a "reckless" prioritisation of the war effort and European stockpiles over Indian lives."

"In that letter, he describes Britain’s dire military and economic situation and reveals that his country will soon be unable to pay cash for American supplies. "

"Indian and Allied forces didn't just fill gaps; they were the "backbone" of major campaigns where British manpower was stretched thin.

Middle East Oil: Indian units secured vital oil fields in Iraq and Iran, ensuring the fuel supply that kept the Royal Navy and RAF operational"

Field Marshal Sir Claude Auchinleck, the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, famously stated that:
"Britain couldn't have come through both wars [WWI and WWII] if they hadn't had the Indian Army".#history #India #Colonization #Churchill

"Britain could not have won the war alone and that Indian and Allied troops, prevented British defeat. Field Marshal Sir Claude Auchinleck, the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, famously stated that Britain "couldn't have come through both wars 1&2 without Indian Army"

"Population Disparity: In 1939, the United Kingdom had roughly 48 million people, while Germany (including annexed territories) had about 80–86 million."
India raised a force of 2.5 million men, the largest"
